The Footpost
New Year, New Me
The Footpost
Happy 2024!
New year, new you, new me. A lot is changing around here. Some major life changes are in the works for me this year, starting with the potential of a new full time job.
That being said, this blog, or this newsletter (whatever you call it), is taking a turn as well. It’s no longer “Christian Pizza.” I’ve adopted “The Footpost” as the official new name. It sounded cool to me, and apparently refers to a foot messenger. And, as we all know, foot messengers are a great portrayal of the spreading of important news.
Footposts are also the butt ends of fancy beds, but that’s neither here nor there.
It also just sounds like a publication; perhaps the name of an old newspaper or something. So that’s the new vibe here.
This post, then, is more or less a greeting to the new year and all that comes with it.
I’ve never been big on new year resolutions, but the flip of a calendar has always stood, for me, as a significant reminder regarding time:
Time is beyond us. We cannot control it.
It is necessary for change and growth and seasons and newness. It is always fleeting, and so we ought to use it well. Plant seeds. Reap what’s grown.
Reflect on this passage from Ecclesiastes:
For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven:
a time to be born, and a time to die;
a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted;
a time to kill, and a time to heal;
a time to break down, and a time to build up;
a time to weep, and a time to laugh;
a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together;
a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
a time to seek, and a time to lose;
a time to keep, and a time to cast away;
a time to tear, and a time to sew;
a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
a time to love, and a time to hate;
a time for war, and a time for peace.
Be thankful and learn from your past. Look forward with hope. The only one above Time is the King Himself, the One who created it.
We would be wise to know Him.
